This visit aims at the strengthening of the economic relations between the Netherlands and Kazakhstan, in particular the maintaining and improvement of these relations in the field of energy. During her stay, Minister Van der Hoeven plans bilateral meetings with Kazakh Prime Minister Massimov, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources S. Mynbayev, Minister of Industry and Trade A. Isekeshev.
In Astana, the Minister will open the seminar on energy saving and energy efficiency, organized jointly by the Dutch government Agency for Sustainable Development and Innovation «SenterNovem” and the Ministry of energy and mineral resources of Kazakhstan.
In Almaty, Mrs van der Hoeven will participate in the opening ceremony for the Kazakhstani international oil and gas exhibition KIOGE, the largest in Central Asia. The Minister will officially open the Dutch stand which combines about 20 companies of the oil and gas sector of the Netherlands. The Minister will also give a lecture for the students of KIMEP University.
Additionaly, Mrs van der Hoeven will visit Atyrau, have a meeting with Akim of Atyrau oblast Mr Ryskaliyev and go to an offshore facility in the Caspian sea.
Kazakhstan is one of the priority partners for the Netherlands in energy cooperation along with Russia, Saudi Arabia and Algiers. Cooperation with Kazakhstan in oil and gas sector is one of the key components of the European energy security. Growing cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands in energy and other sectors of economy is mutually beneficial for both countries. The Netherlands has been the largest investor into the economy of Kazakhstan for several years. Dutch investments go mostly into the oil and gas sector. In 2008 Dutch investments in Kazakhstan compiled 4.6 bln USD; export of Dutch goods and services to Kazakhstan reached 0, 3 bln USD; imports from Kazakhstan to the Netherlands equaled 4.6 bln USD.
